BEAUTY WITH  PURPOSE, CHARACTER IS VIRTUOUS – PROF. GOSKI ALABI

Prof. Mrs. Goski Alabi, President of Laweh Open University College, has observed that beauty with purpose and character is a virtue with the potential for positively transforming the lives of others.

Prof. Mrs. Alabi said it is the identification of these attributes in Naa Dedei Botchwey, Ghana Most Beautiful 2020, that motivated Laweh to collaborate with her in her Inclusive Education project.

She made these remarks while delivering the keynote address at the launch of the NDB Foundation in Accra on Friday, February 26. The NDB Foundation is the brainchild of Naa Dedei.

According to Prof. Mrs. Alabi, Naa Dedei is not using her beauty for self enhancement, which could lead to destruction, but rather for the betterment of a section of the society, that is, Children with Special Needs.

She noted that the vision of NDB Foundation, ‘Championing the Vision of Children With Special Needs’ is consistent with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) of the United Nations, which in turn is in consonance with the vision of Laweh, to wit, ‘Providing Education Without Barriers’.

SDG 4 provides: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Prof. Mrs. Alabi pointed out that this is exactly what Laweh is doing, and NDB Foundation seeks to tread the same path.

On her part, Naa Dedei revealed that despite persistent efforts years ago, she could not get a scholarship to pursue further studies abroad. She therefore decided whenever she is better placed, she would help others with scholarship to go to school. She thus see the Laweh scholarship as God sent.

Laweh is offering two scholarships to candidates to be provided by Ghana Most Beautiful 2020 to pursue a bachelors programme of their choice at Laweh Open University  College.

Naa Dedei disclosed that she would use part of the funds to be raised by the Foundation to build a library at Apollonia, and undertake tours to disseminate what the Foundation has to offer beneficiaries.

Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration,  Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, lauded the Foundation, describing it as an auspicious project, and promised to help support with the raising of funds for the Foundation.

Chairperson for the event, Laud Botchwey, Chief, Peacekeeping Headquarters Audit Section, United Nations, said over the years he had seen many children fell along way, who could have continued their education if there had been some scholarship scheme to support them.

Dr, Francis Doku, General Manager, MGTV, commended Naa Dedei for the Foundation and assured her of the unalloyed support of TV3 and MGTV in general.
